3/15/2024 0 Comments Vw golf coolant warning light![]() Totally p****d off by this stage I rang my parts guy and asked him for a bottle of k seal The only place it could have come from was around the cap There was a blockage and when I put them back it all worked and the heaters were warmīut it came back 2 days later coolant light on after 120 milesīut I noticed that when header tank cap was removed I had a lot of pressure and I noticed coolant around the cap I took the heater matrix pipes (engine side) and blew through with an air and water hose combined My other thought is that perhaps the coolant in the system is degraded and so is boiling off? I know that there is a pressure release valve in the tank cap, perhaps this is opening due to excessive pressure? So, it appears that in my case this may have something to do with the expansion tank and / or cap, but I've replaced them. Checked for leaks under the engine - no evidence of leaks or residue on the under tray on hoses or radiator. Although it did flush through clean, clearly I didn't get to all parts of the coolant system as it went brown again pretty soon after.ģ. The coolant is brown in colour (as it has been since I bought the car). Flushed and replaced the coolant with ready-mixed G13. Things I have done, which have not made any improvement: -Ģ. Risky, I know - but on one occasion, whilst wearing oven gloves and using a towel covering the expansion tank, I have gently turned the tank lid to open whilst engine still warm - and there is a short hiss when the lid has been turned sufficiently, so there is pressure there. Evidence of coolant on the outside of the expansion tank and in the recess under the cap (see pics).ģ. The cap is no longer in the fully clockwise 'clicked' position, instead it has become undone slightly - not loose but no longer clicked into the closed position as it had been.Ģ. The engine temperature gauge has never indicated any temperature problems - the needle gets to the 90 deg C mark and stays there, never exceeds it.Īfter allowing the engine to cool, checking the expansion tank reveals: -ġ. ![]() It does not not typically reoccur immediately when the engine is started, but usually does within a few minutes of the engine starting. The error does not then occur again immediately after restarting the engine, regardless of whether it is hot or cold.Īfter further use (either a single long journey or trips over a few days), the error occurs again and this time does persist. However, eventually the "check coolant" error is reported whilst driving. Starting with coolant expansion tank cleaned and dried on the outside, topped up to max line and having closed the expansion tank cap fully (so that it clicks), the car can be driven for many miles with a combination of journey types with no problems. I've read through posts on various forums but I don't see any that match the exact behaviour I'm seeing, so am at a bit of a loss. Hello, I have a 2013 Mk7 estate Bluemotion 2.0 TDi with CRBC engine and I have an ongoing "magic" coolant problem. Tank and cap replaced, system flushed (not professionally) but no improvement. Expansion tank lid found to be slightly undone, level has dropped and coolant found on the outside of the tank.
